What Bitcoin Histórico Is
Most Bitcoin conferences happen in convention centers. Bitcoin Histórico happens in a 19th-century government palace. The National Bitcoin Office (Oficina Nacional del Bitcoin), led by Stacy Herbert with Max Keiser as adviser, launched it in 2025 in the National Palace and the National Theater. Diario El Salvador reported that the first edition drew more than 1,000 attendees from El Salvador and abroad, with panels on financial education, digital capital markets and monetary sovereignty, and a live mural painted on Plaza Gerardo Barrios.
The second edition goes back to the same streets. The official site lists the National Palace, the National Theater, the National Library (BINAES) and Plaza Gerardo Barrios among its venues, all within a few blocks of each other downtown. The organizers' tagline for this year is "where history meets the future," and the official announcement put it more bluntly: "Bitcoin is not a side project here, it is a national direction."
If you haven't been to downtown San Salvador in a while, the setting is part of the point. The Centro Histórico has been heavily renovated over the past few years, and walking it at night is now normal. Our San Salvador historic center guide covers what to see between sessions.
Speakers Announced So Far
Names announced for 2026, as reported by elsalvador.com and Última Hora, include Max Keiser, Stacy Herbert, Saifedean Ammous (author of The Bitcoin Standard), Jimmy Song, Giacomo Zucco, Pierre Rochard, Knut Svanholm, Lina Seiche, Milena Mayorga, Mike Peterson and Roman Martínez, among others. The main language is English, and some sessions will have Spanish translation. Lineups change, so check the official schedule closer to the date.
Tickets: Prices, Tiers and Paying in Bitcoin
Tickets are sold only in bitcoin on bitcoinhistorico.com. Bitcoin Magazine reported these tiers:
- • Satoshi Chero, $21: for locals with a Salvadoran DUI.
- • Trailblazer Seat, $350: guaranteed seating, public sessions, tech demos, community meetups and an invitation to the afterparty.
- • Genesis Crown Pass, $2,100: VIP seating inside the National Palace, fast-track entry, a private lounge with meals, a merch pack and priority networking with keynote speakers.
- • Every tier: includes free entry to the Renaissance Rodeo on November 13.
A few things to know before you buy. According to elsalvador.com, tickets are non-refundable but transferable, so if your plans change you can pass yours to someone else. Since you're paying in BTC, the dollar price is converted at the moment you pay; have a Lightning or on-chain wallet ready and allow for network fees. If you're new to self-custody, our Bitcoin in El Salvador guide walks through wallets.
What's free
You don't need a ticket for the public side of the event. Keynotes are streamed to giant screens on Plaza Gerardo Barrios, in front of the Cathedral, and the organizers have announced art, games, music and fireworks downtown, with a DJ set on the plaza after the talks (the afterparty itself is for Genesis Crown and Trailblazer holders).
The 21,000 Free Pupusas
The announcement that got the most attention in El Salvador wasn't a speaker. It was food. After a debut in 2025, Bitcoin Histórico is again giving away 21,000 pupusas on Plaza Gerardo Barrios, free, a nod to bitcoin's 21 million coin cap. "Locals, visitors, families, beginners and Bitcoin OGs, all at the same table," the organizers posted. Expect lines; go early. And if you land a few days ahead, National Pupusa Day falls just before the conference, on Sunday, November 8.
El Salvador's November Bitcoin Week (Nov 10–20)
Bitcoin Histórico is the centerpiece, but not the only event. Bitcoin Magazine listed five main events on the National Bitcoin Office's calendar, plus community side events:
Bitcoin Capital Summit
Tue, Nov 10 · BINAES (National Library), San Salvador
An evening event (5:00–7:30 p.m.) on Bitcoin's "institutional era," from corporate treasuries to capital markets. It's hosted by Luca Esposito of Blockstream Capital Partners with the Bitcoin Office, with a keynote by Sean Bill and a closing fireside with Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert. Registration is free but needs approval on the event's Luma page.
Bitcoin Histórico
Wed–Thu, Nov 11–12 · National Palace & Centro Histórico, San Salvador
The main event: two days of keynotes and panels in the National Palace, streamed to giant LED screens on Plaza Gerardo Barrios, plus tech demos, meetups, music, art and fireworks downtown.
Renaissance Rodeo
Fri, Nov 13 · Shore of Lake Ilopango
A first-time event with bull riding, mutton busting, barrel racing, music and barbecue, pitched as a celebration of Salvadoran cowboy culture and regenerative agriculture. Any Bitcoin Histórico ticket includes free entry; details and a waitlist are on renaissance.rodeo.
EmTech AI LATAM
Wed–Thu, Nov 18–19 · Escuela Superior de Economía y Negocios (ESEN)
The first Latin American edition of MIT Technology Review's EmTech AI conference, organized with Opinno and C² Labs and supported by El Salvador's national AI agency. The focus is moving AI from pilots into production, governance and talent.
Global Bitcoin Circular Economies Summit
Thu–Fri, Nov 19–20 · El Zonte, La Libertad
Organized by Bitcoin Beach and the Federation of Bitcoin Circular Economies, in the surf village where El Salvador's Bitcoin story started. Earlier editions were invite-only; this is the first one open to the public.
One more: the MurphsLife Foundation is holding a Regenerative Sovereignty Summit at Casa Conejo on November 13–15, "directly after Bitcoin Histórico," according to its site. The program was still being finalized when we checked.
For the AI side of the week, see our pieces on El Salvador as an AI capital and the national AI agency (ANIA). For the El Zonte summit, our Bitcoin Beach guide covers where to stay and surf.
Where Bitcoin Stands in El Salvador Right Now
It's worth knowing the context before you fly in. In January 2025, El Salvador reformed its Bitcoin Law, and businesses are no longer required to accept bitcoin. Plenty of places in Surf City and downtown still do, but US dollars are what everyone takes, so carry some cash and a card. Under its IMF program the government has agreed to limits on public-sector bitcoin activity, yet it has kept adding to its reserve; reports in mid-October put the holdings at roughly 7,800 BTC. Our live Bitcoin reserves tracker has the current number, and our post on Bitcoin's legal status explains what changed.
Planning Your Trip
Getting there
Fly into El Salvador International Airport (SAL), south of the capital; the drive to downtown San Salvador usually takes under an hour, depending on traffic. Uber works from the airport, and authorized taxis wait outside arrivals. Check entry rules for your passport in our visa requirements guide and our airport guide.
Where to stay
You have three realistic choices. Stay downtown to walk to the National Palace; the hotel supply in the Centro Histórico is still small, so book early. Stay in Escalón, San Benito or Santa Elena, the hotel districts most visitors use, and take an Uber in each morning (leave time for rush-hour traffic). Or base yourself at the coast in Surf City, which makes sense if you're also going to the El Zonte summit on November 19–20, but adds about an hour each way to the conference days. Our neighborhoods guide compares the areas.
A sample 10-day Bitcoin week
- Nov 10: Arrive, then the Bitcoin Capital Summit at BINAES in the evening (if your registration is approved).
- Nov 11–12: Bitcoin Histórico at the National Palace; pupusas and the plaza program in between.
- Nov 13: Renaissance Rodeo on Lake Ilopango. See our Lake Ilopango guide.
- Nov 14–17: Free days. Hike a volcano, do the Ruta de las Flores, or head to the coast.
- Nov 18–19: EmTech AI LATAM, if AI is your thing.
- Nov 19–20: Circular Economies Summit in El Zonte, then a few days of surf.
November is also the start of the dry season, so the weather is on your side. Our November travel guide covers the rest of the month, including the WSL World Junior Championships in El Tunco on November 25–29.
- • Book rooms now. Five events in ten days means hotels downtown and in El Zonte fill up.
- • Carry dollars too. Bitcoin acceptance is voluntary; taxis, markets and many small shops want cash.
- • Bring your ID. The $21 Satoshi Chero tier is tied to a Salvadoran DUI; everyone else should carry a passport.
- • Dress for heat. Daytime downtown is hot; the palace and plaza sessions run late, when it cools off.
- • Check the schedule daily. Side events get added and times move.

The Bottom Line
If you're going to one Bitcoin event in Latin America this year, this is the week to pick: a conference in a national palace, a rodeo by a volcanic lake and a circular-economy summit in the village where it all started, all within ten days. If you're a local, $21 and a DUI get you in, and the pupusas are free either way.
